Tribute: Olivia de Havilland turns 100!

Gone with the Wind (1939) | Victor Flemming

befront_oliviadehavilland_04The last surviving member of Hollywood’s golden era [and Kirk Douglas] just turned 100. Truth be told Miss de Havilland will probably outlive us all.

She constantly portrayed sympathetic and compassionate lead roles. Olivia had a warm charm and ladylike aura on-screen. Off screen she was quite the opposite; always waging legal battles against major studios and fighting for her inch in a male dominated profession.

Her first major role came in 1935 and her breakout performance was in the 1939 civil war epic; Gone with the Wind. She held her own next to Vivien Leigh‘s fiery Scarlett O’Hara.
