Same Commute, Different Century

London based photographer, Matt Crabtree rides the train everyday and like many of us he spends quite a bit of time observing his fellow commuters. One little difference though, he captures them on his phone and edits their images to create Renaissance looking images.

Many of these are fascinating and certainly feel like 500 year old images. Here are a few interesting ones below; complete with running commentary from the photographer.

This first image completely captures me. A classic Madonna depiction from any one of the Renaissance masters.

“It really just started off as some photos to share with my mates on Facebook, and all of a sudden, it’s taken off”

“The lighting was perfect. She was sat with her arms crossed and she was looking up”

“No one wants to look you in the eye on the Tube… Londoners don’t”

This is a classic Da Vinci pose. The slight lean and the angle of her head composed the images beautifully.
