Wielding a large palette knife, Iran based artist Salman Khoshroo produces some of the most astounding colour compositions of human figures and portraits. The somewhat pixelated productions are heavy batches of oil paint layered several times in what may appear to be random strokes yet reveal a masterful analysis of the human form.
“Paint is an interesting object, for years I have struggled to control this substance”
The longer one studies these strokes and colour combinations, the more it baffles. There is an optical illusion that captures our minds; leading us far enough down the line, forcing us to complete the image for ourselves.
There are a series of different strokes that Khoshroo employs to give character to each one of his paintings; the straight stroke feels more gentle than the squiggle… or maybe we’re just hallucinating.
